The first route that comes to mind when walking is mentioned in our country is undoubtedly the Lycian Way. If you have a list of things to do before you die, walking the Lycian Way should definitely be on that list. Adventure, history, nature, exploration and a brand new experience; here is the Lycian Way walk with all its magic!

Where is the Lycian Way?

First of all, for those who do not know, the Lycian Way is the first long-distance walking path of our country. Until 2015, its length was 509 km. At that time, it ended in Hisarçandır Village, but with the newly added routes, its length reached 535 km and it ends at Geyikbayırı. This historical walking route, which starts from Fethiye and ends in Antalya, was created by marking and mapping some of the paths on the Teke Peninsula.

What is Required for a Lycian Way Trip?

The important thing in trekking is to be in good health and to have suitable clothing and camping equipment. Before you set off, we recommend that you read Kate Clow’s book The Lycian Way. However, you can download the mobile application called “Likya Yolu” to your iOS device, both free and in Turkish. Moreover, since it works with GPS, it does not matter much whether there is internet or not. This application is a guide with detailed maps, points of interest, places to stay, in short, detailed information. You can also join the group called “Lycian Way – Lycian Way” on Facebook. Here you can follow the posts of the people on the walk or help each other.

Important !

We thought it was necessary to open a separate parenthesis on the subject of water. Because some stages will be quite long and you will not be able to find anywhere to supply water. There is no water, especially from Karaöz Bay to Adrasan. Water is very valuable on this route. Therefore, you should stock up on water very well. We do not know how reliable it is, but you can get it from water purification apparatus or powders that add minerals to the water. However, it would be beneficial for you to research them thoroughly.

Accommodation on the Lycian Way – Accommodation

Depending on the route you choose, you can stay in hostels and motels, or if you’re lucky, you can be a guest at the villagers’ house. However, it is a fact that you will have to set up a tent. Of course, there is no specific campsite that we can recommend to you. You should aim to reach the place where you will camp only 2 hours before dark, be close to the water source, if possible, we recommend you to camp in a place where tents have been set up before. Let your tent setting up process be finished before it gets dark. One piece of advice; According to the reports we have heard, it is not recommended to set up camp there by the Gelidonya Lighthouse. Scorpions roam around at night. Tell us.

Food Shortage on the Lycian Way

This! Let’s be careful with the water. Make sure your fitness is solid. Camping equipment, etc. Then you will walk with a weight of 15 kilos on your back, climbing up the slope from place to place. Take energizing foods with you rather than weight-bearing canned foods. They both mix with the blood faster and take up less space. Also make sure that the break places are working actively. Don’t go hungry or thirsty after walking 15 km. And if possible, set out with a group or a guide.
